Andorran educational system

In Andorra there are 4 educational systems: Andorran, French, Spanish and British. Education is free from 3 to 16 years old in the Andorran, French and Spanish systems and it is compulsory from 6 to 16 years old in all of them.
After compulsory education, students can choose general studies  or professional/vocation studies in a High School.
Andorran system is a multilingual system where Catalan, French and Spanish are languages used as teaching languages. English is also taught as a Foreign language.

Structure

Andorran HEI offer the following official degrees:

- Bàtxelor : First cycle university degree with a workload of 180 ECTS
- Bàtxelor d'especialització : First cycle university degree consisting in a specialization of a previous bàtxelor degree. Students must hold a bàtxelor degree before applying to a bàtxelor d'especialització. Programs have a minimum workload of 60 ECTS.
- Màster : Second cycle university degree with a workload of 120 ECTS
- Doctor : Third cycle degree with length of 3 years

Andorran HEI may offer Life Long Learning programs (non offcial degrees).

Framework

National Qualifications Framework
Law 20/2021, 15 July, approving the National Qualifications Framework of Andorra. Andorra published the National Qualifications Framework by Law.
Law 7/2023, 19 January, consolidated text creating the Andorran Qualifications Framework. The publication of this consolidated text of Law 20/2021, aims to integrate the regulations governing the Framework into a single text in order to guarantee transparency and legal security.

The Framework has 8 levels. HE levels correspond from 5 to 8:

Level 5: short cycle inside first cycle
Level 6: first cycle
Level 7: second cycle
Level 8: third cycle

Self-Certification

Agència de qualitat de l'ensenyament superior d'Andorra (AQUA)
The Andorran Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (AQUA) was created by Decree in 2006 to guarantee the quality of the programs offered by the higher education institutions. today, it is ruled by Law.

Law 14/2020, of November 12 modifies the Law 9/2016, of June 28 which ensures the independence, transparency, professionalism and international recognition of AQUA.
Decree 63/2021, of 24-2-2021, approve the Regulation of the AQUA.

Access to levels of higher education

Access to the diploma professional avançat and bàtxelor programs:

-  Títol de batxiller qualification.
-  Títol de batxiller professional qualification.
-  Any official higher education qualification.
-  Passing the access test for people over 25 years old.

Access to the bàtxelor d’especialització program (level 6B of the NQF): an official higher education qualification of level 6A in the same field of the bàtxelor d’especialització.

Access to the màster program : an official higher education qualification of level 6 of the NQF.

Access to the doctoral program : an official higher education qualification of level 7 of the NQF.

DPA and BTS are professional degrees with a workload of 120 ECTS.
They are a short cycle inside a first cycle.

Refugees

Recognition of diplomas held by refugees is regulated by decree.
