Recognition Tools and Projects
ENICs and NARICs have developed tools and projects to facilitate recognition, foster mobility and enhance internationalisation of higher education.
The following is a list of tools that can help credential evaluators in their daily work. If a tool was developed in the framework of a project, you can see it linked at the bottom. The searching box at the top left of the page allows for an easier search of tools, projects or topics.

- STREAM | AR-Net - Automatic Recognition in the Networks
In the AR-Net project, STREAM has been developed for admissions officers working in Higher Education Institutions in the European Higher Education Area. It provides concise training materials, based on the EAR-HEI manual, including many examples and exercises from daily recognition practice.

Matching tools
- Automatic Recognition Network Match your qualification | MAReN - Mediterranean Automatic Recognition Network; AdReN – Automatic Recognition in the Adriatic Region
The Match Your Qualififcations tool, result of the EU co-funded AdReN and MAReN projects, allows to match the issuing country and its national qualifications to find out the correspondence with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), the National Qualifications Frameworks and same level of national qualifications in the Adriatic and Mediterranean regions.

The EHEA qualification table provides an easy overview which qualifications fall in one cycle or European Qualifications Framework (EQF) level, and could be automatically considered for general access to the next level. It was created in the framework of the EU co-funded project I-AR.

LIREQA recommendations were developed in the LIREQA project with the view of HEIs, periods of study and prior learning, and also having in mind one type not explicitly mentioned in the ESG – foreign access qualifications, enabling progression from secondary education or vocational education and training (VET) onto higher education.

The Kwalifikator is a tool that automatically generates a general Recognition Statement concerning recognition of a given type of higher education degrees obtained abroad. - Qualifications Assessment Tool
The Qualification Assessment Tool compares a given foreign qualification to the correspondant in Sweden.
- FraudSCAN Database | FraudSCAN - False Records, Altered University Diploma Samples Collection and Alert for NARICs
The FraudSCAN database provides credential evaluators with a useful tool to carry out assessments and to prevent the circulation and the use of fraudulent qualifications, building on the expertise and experience of colleagues from ENIC-NARIC centres that were partners to the projects FraudSCAN and FraudS+. The database is accessible to staff of the ENIC-NARIC centres only.

The SCAN-D database collected 4,000 examples of academic certifications (diplomas, exam certificates, certifications etc.) awarded by universities from the 24 countries participating in the project, collected during the EU co-funded SCAN-D and SCAN-D2 projects. The access to the database is restricted to ENIC-NARIC centres.

- ANABIN Database
Anabin provides information on the evaluation of foreign educational certificates and supports authorities, employers and employees as well as private individuals in classifying a foreign qualification in the German educational system. - International Qualifications Database
The searchable Foreign Qualifications Database of the NARIC has over 1700 qualifications from more than 160 countries and allows to download a comparability statement that compares an academic qualification to an Irish qualification of a similar major award type and level on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), where possible.

The ISOBAQ database, developed under the co-funded by the Erasmus+ project, contains information on Pre-Bologna Academic Qualifications, with the aim of improving recognition procedures by sharing information. It is accessible by the 55 centres of the ENIC/NARIC Network.

The Canadian-developed database gives country-specific up-to-date information on competent authorities and national information centres. - English Terminology Guide to Academic Credential Assessment in Canada | Pan-Canadian Quality Standards in International Academic Credential Assessment – Phase II
Under the Pan-Canadian Quality Standards in International Academic Credential Assessment – Phase II project, CICIC developed an English guide and a French guide collecting the terminology used by credential evaluators in their academic assessments. The two guides have been drafted separately, in order to avoid translation mistakes. The electronic platform ensures that the terminology is always up to date.

- Q-ENTRY Database | Q-ENTRY - International Database on Higher Education Entry Qualifications
The Q-ENTRY database is a first-hand information tool providing relevant information on school leaving qualifications giving access to Higher Education, in EU and non-EU countries. It was developed within the EU co-funded Q-ENTRY and qENTRY+ projects.

- CIMEA MAGNA CUM LAUDE: A worldwide database of University Grading Systems
The University Grading Systems database mainly focuses on third countries as a response to their increasing involvement in international programmes. This tool serves as a quick reference to gather information on grading scales in use worldwide, with the purpose to facilitate credential assessment and comparability.

A short path to automatic recognition - 4 models, result of the EU co-funded PARADIGMS project, is a policy paper analysing the definition of Automatic Recognition and supporting its realisation by 2020.

- Knowledge and awareness of fraud in education: a student perspective | FraudS+ - False Records, Altered Diploma and Diploma Mills Qualifications Collection
The exploratory analysis conducted in the framework of the EU co-funded project FraudS+, aims to gain a better understanding of students’ perception of the phenomenon of fraud in education. This constituted the empirical foundation for the creation of instruments directed towards the promotion of a culture of ethics and transparency in the greater academic community.

- Micro-credentials for higher education institutions. Approach developed in the EHEA using peer support
This document, targeted at HEIs as providers of micro-credentials and as bodies responsible for their recognition, is based on the rationale that the provision and recognition of micro-credentials are two sides of the same coin, meaning that designing micro-credentials based on the Bologna tools and supported by existing good practices will also facilitate their recognition.
