Academic Recognition

Academic recognition refers to the recognition of qualifications obtained in country A (the sending country) for further studies, for use of an academic title, or for seeking employment in a non-regulated profession in country B (the host country). It is a formal procedure that takes place in higher education institutions in connection with admission, or when study periods abroad are credited and counted towards a degree.

The ENIC-NARIC National Information Centres, or in some countries the Ministries of Education, are also performing academic recognition for the labour market or for further education.

Applying for credential evaluation/recognition is often an essential step when planning to study or to work abroad. Credential evaluation assists you and foreign organisations to understand how your qualifications relate to those in the foreign host country.

As countries have different education and qualifications systems, employers or higher education institutions abroad do not necessarily understand your qualification.
